Wanting to stop hormonal birth control but have a lot of questions?

Leaving hormonal birth control can be a big decision! Are you worried about getting pregnant and feeling overwhelmed? OR Thinking about starting FAM but hesitant to actually trust it for birth control?

I feel you, you’re wanting to come off hormonal birth control  after 5, 10, 15+ years but you’re worried about getting pregnant, getting acne, gaining wait, the list goes on.

Here’s my top TWO pieces of advice:

  1. Read the book “Beyond The Pill” by Dr. Jolene Brighton. This book is packed with soo much information about how to support your body before you stop the pill as well as what to do after you stop. It can feel overwhelming but just start with one thing at a time and know that anything you are doing is helping.

  2. Take a course or class with a certified FAM instructor. I can’t recommend this enough! Honestly, everyone should take one of these because what you learn is SO good. I was “self taught” FAM for about a year and a half and gained sooo much clarity after working with my instructor and learning a specific method. Highly recommend taking a class if you are wanting to avoid or achieve pregnancy, or just learn about your body and your hormones.

If you want to take simple action today; here's my top four suggestions on how to support your body through the transition:

  1. Give yourself time: It can take a few months for your body to adjust after stopping birth control, so be patient with your hormones.

  2. Use fertility awareness methods to track your cycle and understand where you are in your reproductive health.

  3. Eat hormone-supporting foods: Focus on omega-3s, vitamins B and D, and magnesium-rich foods to support hormonal health.

  4. Manage stress: Stress can make hormonal imbalances worse. Incorporate stress-relieving practices like meditation, journaling, and yoga.

Your body’s balance is important—support it with the right tools and practices.

Ultimately, stopping hormonal birth control is a deeply personal decision that can empower you to reconnect with your body, understand your natural rhythms, and explore holistic options for your health—so you can feel more in tune with yourself and your future choices.
